3 Helpful Bacteria

LACTOBACILLUS
Reduces diarrhea and helps ingestion of dairy products.  Found in foods such as milk, yogurt, and baby formula.  Also secretes factors that regulate the immune system and fight disease-causing bacteria.

BIFIDOBACTERIUM

Helps reduce diarrhea and mitigate irratable bowel syndrome.  May also enhance immune system function and prevent colon cancer.

Escherichia coli (E. coli).

While common perception sees E. coli as a deadly bacteria associated with food and supermarket recalls, most E. coli strains are harmless.  In truth, E. coli is present in every human intestine and is responsible for producing Vitamin K2.  Additionally, E. coli prevents pathogenic bacteria from developing within the intestine.

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Comparison

C3, C4, and CAM Photosynthesis

Five things I Learned About MacroMolecules

http://biomodel.uah.es/en/model3/index.htm

  1. Glucose is a 6-Carbon molecules (called a Hexose) of the aldose type.  Therefore glucose is a aldohexose.  Glucose's most stable shape is in the form of a ring.
  2. Starch is a polysaccharide that is present in plants such as potatoes, rice, or wheat.
  3. Amylose is a starch polysaccharide that has a tendency to form coils.

4. Amino acides have a primary aminogroup NH2 and a carboxyl group -COOH
5.  DNA is formed from the double helix formation of linked deoxyribonucleoside monophosphates.

BioChem Wordle

Biology is a multidisciplinary field that has many facets and branches.  A major component of biology deals with the chemistry of life.  The properties and structures of different atoms and compounds such as carbonyl and carboxyl are essential to cellular functioning.  Particularly, carbon is essential to the construction of life due to its tetravalanece.  The four outer electrons that carbon possesses allows it to be form a nearly infinite number of compounds and isomers.  Isomers of compounds have identical chemical formula but differing structure and shape.  Adenine TriPhosphate (ATP) is another important molecule.  While unstable, ATP is a the primary method of storing and transforming energy for immediate use.  Water is additionally important to life due to the hydrogen bonding and the resulting properties that make it ideal for different cellular processes.
